Prophetic Resistance Trainings - via LiveFree IL
North Side Training - Tues, Sept 2nd from 10am-12pm at Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church.
South Side Training - Thurs, Sept 4th from 5:30-7:30pm at New Covenant Baptist Church. This training will have a youth-focused component.
Topics covered will be principles of nonviolence, direct action, media and social media, knowing your rights, and rapid response. Though the training will cover some topics you may already know well, the focus of these trainings will be on how to keep black and brown people in Chicago safe in light of the impending occupation by the military. Faith leaders are highly encouraged to attend!
CATA (Coalition Against Trump's Agenda) is planning a large action that has been supported by several other groups including ICIRR. This action will take place at Ida B Wells & Michigan Ave at 5pm on the day troops arrive (if they arrive before 3pm) OR it will take place 5pm on the day after troops arrive (if they arrive after 3pm).
Observing what has happened in both LA and DC after the National Guard was deployed has shown that the most impacted communities have been people experiencing homelessness. Due to this, the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness has created palm cards in anticipation of Federal Enforcement. Please distribute to anyone you know who has been on the street as well as any groups who do outreach to local encampments.
Just a reminder that the SWG has a folder full of Family Preparedness Plan documents. Please share with anyone you know who may be vulnerable to detention and has not yet created an emergency plan.
If you know anyone who needs accompaniment to any immigration-related appointment, please have them fill out SWG's Accompaniment Request Form as soon as they can.
